I still refuse to rejoin the WIA!! But….

image_1_previewI was sent a link to the most recent WIA presidents blog/letter recently by someone who said I should reconsider my WIA position based on this letter and the intent that the WIA is making in order to change their direction.

It’s interesting to note that I’ve had 2 conversations with Phil over the last 12 months that are very similar to the content of his blog letter and my original WIA entry is similar in its commentry. So with that in mind, and with a context of an intent to change the direction of the association, my position to look at reconsidering becoming a member has opened up.

However, I note that the intent is still just that, an intent to consider options for change, other than some stands at some maker fares , no actual change has occurred YET. A clubs based poll to get some ideas for promotion and some opinion of a greater member base, with a proposed poll for the existing members planned for the future.

Phil’s letter talks about the need to think about thinking about how to change or perish, that some will need to consider a future of a different WIA, a digital access method, a modern approach and a new focus on developing markets… Or no WIA at all.

But that’s the problem, it’s still only talk about considering to think about how to change. Real leadership comes form imparting a decisive change and following through on that goal, trusting in the decision and ensuring that it succeeds. Change is never easy, but sometimes you just need to move the cheese, or suffer it going mouldy and having to be thrown away.

Unfortunately, as Margaret Thatcher said, I’m afraid “The lady’s not for turning”

So. Show me WIA you actually have the ability to change, and I’ll join in an instant. I’ll even volunteer my time and efforts (as i did in the late 1990’s and early 2000’s in VK2) to help develop, promote and advance the hobby and association again, as I said in my earlier post, I don’t want to see my hobby and ham radio die in a nursing home.

As a side note, my google advertising and youtube ad accounts for this website are just under $40 earned currently. So that’s half way to a membership. 🙂
